What we are and what we believe.

We believe that the forgoing and how it applies to the individual is an individual choice. Each of us has our limits, temperments, and life experiance that drive our actions through life. Going beyond ones-self is the way of the hero, an aspect of that is the Way of the Wolf.

The Wolfbund is a Svartiskóli, a "black school" of Northern Euopean Magical Tradition. Founded on January 18th, 2003 here in North Amarica, our organization represents the next phase in the evolution of Germanic magic. In the German tongue the word "bund" means - a band, tie: a league, alliance, confederacy, or a covenant. Today's usage is largely political and in meny cases looked at with trepidation becouse of it's use during the midtwentieth century in both Russia and, of course, Germany. This is especialy so with a term like Männerbünd. Despite the use of the term by various political factions during the war years, we use it now as it was ued in the pre-war vernacular of the anthropologist in conjunction with the Wolf. The Wolfbund represents "the band of the wolf", or úlfabanda" here in Miðgarðr. We believe that the god of the ancient Germanic "Mannerbund" was Wodanaz (Woden, Wotan, Oðinn, Oden), and that his "form" was that of the Wolf-god, or Úlfaguð. Later, this "wolfbund" developed in the "úlfheiðinn" of the Norse and continental warrior cult tradition. This is a tradition that is found throughout many of the Indo-European subcultures and is an aspect of the greater "masking cult" phenomenon. Moreover, it was at Jul that the wolf/masking cults were most prevalent, eventually giving rise to the 'Wild hunt' traditions. The rites performed at this time were major catalysts for the transformation and renewal of the community.
Our mission is to provide a venue for Self-transformation, Self-actualization, and Mastery of a particular magical discipline: thereby re-forging and strengthening our connections with the Traditional tendencies peculiar to our Folk. It is how these goals are achieved that makes the Wolfbund unique. Firmly anchored in the Elder Runic Tradition, the Wolfbund also teaches the Younger, Old English, and Armanen Runic Systems. In addition, the curriculum also offers exploration into these forms of magic: seiðr, seið-berendr, fróð-leikr, skelmis-skapr, fordoeða, braum-heill, fugl-heill, fjölkyngi, galdrar, hamramr, spa, gandreiðr, German hex-craft, languages such as Gothic and Old Norse, and of course, all of the Lore that supports it.
Finally, the Wolfbund offers a degreed system of Initiation. This is to officially measure and then review the progress of an individual through our system criteria. Membership within this Organization is contingent on one's honor, Attendance, and Participation. We are looking for the serious minded magician - someone who, in the end, not only wants to make a difference in his or her own lives, but in the "organic" lives of the heathen Folk in general.
